‘If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you haven’t spent the night with a mosquito’
It all starts with this African proverb, that no one is too small to make a difference.
As parents, Claire and Ogo are passionate about acceptance and self love. We believe that if we can encourage our children to love themselves and embrace the things that makes them unique, they will have the confidence to take on the world.
We created a unisex kids clothing range that is made to stand out and spread a positive message. Inspired by Nnenna Emily’s Nigerian heritage and the African art of storytelling textiles, the clothing carries symbols to represent affirmations and positive messages of self-belief and love.
We call it feel good clothing!
‘The world is not ours, the earth is not ours, It’s a treasure we hold in trust for future generations’
Feel Good Materials
The Obi collection is crafted with an organic cotton and bamboo mix fabric that contains 4% elastane.
From every thread to every fastener, all components of our clothing are Oeko-Tek tested for harmful substances to ensure that we’re using only the safest materials when manufacturing our clothing.
We Celebrate Colour
All skin is beautiful, and we want to protect it from as many toxins as possible. We use organic inks, also Oeko-Tek approved, in our printing process for maximum colour using minimal resources.
"Akwa Baby was born to help teach my kids to see and love the uniqueness of themselves and the uniqueness of others" Ogo.
Non Traditional Labels
All of our inside garment care and brand labels are made from natural fibres for comfortability. The branded tags attached to our cotton garments are produced with FSC approved paper, no plastic, ever!
ECO Packaging
From manufacturer to your doorstep, all of our garments are carefully packaged in FSC approved paper packaging that is reusable, responsibly sourced, and biodegradable.
Living Wages
We value honest, fair wages and ethical working conditions to enhance the lives of our workers and community. Our factory is Sedex approved meaning important steps are taken to ensure a healthy, responsible, and safe environment with an increased focus on improving human and worker rights.
Our Pinky Promise
We put as much care into our clothing as you put into raising your little one. In an effort to minimise our environmental impact, we’re continually learning and evolving our processes to do our part for our planet, our children, and their future.
Akwa Baby is committed to donating 10% of our profits across the year to great causes we care about.
From the end of May launch and throughout the months of June and July, our chosen charity is the community owned Reteti Elephant Sanctuary in Kenya, you can view their incredible and heartwarming work here
