Rebecca from The Solid Bar Company found her inspiration ‘from sailing a 36ft yacht across the Atlantic’, covering 10,000 miles.  During the voyage, giant waves resulted in plastic bottles of shampoos and shower gels ricocheting noisily around as they bounced off the walls of the boat.

With increasing difficulty in finding eco-friendly personal care products at various stops on her journey, she decided she wanted to create a simple and practical range that was better for both people and the environment, including eliminating the need for water and plastic, which would also make them compact, leak free and easier to travel with.

Her multiple award-winning vegan product line includes pH balanced hair care bars with complex formulations created to ‘salon standard’ with pro-vitamin B5, vegetable keratin and plant-based silicone alternatives.

They also offer a 12 active ingredient solid repellent lotion bar, created over two years in the Caribbean; an ideal place to perfect such a product that really works against repelling mosquitoes and biting flies.

After many boat problems and a severe hurricane, Rebecca and her husband made the decision to move back to the UK in 2018 and manufacture their products in Oxfordshire.

They recently switched a large part of the packaging away from aluminium tins to compostable cardboard in a move towards being zero waste.  As efficient as aluminium packaging is for recycling, Rebecca says she has seen enough places in the world that don’t recycle at all and that memory has stayed with her.

Her product line has been endorsed by The Prince Albert of Monaco Foundation.
