Today we celebrate World Bamboo Day!
This incredible resource is the fastest growing plant on the planet and a crucial element in the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Did you know that a grove of bamboo releases 35% more oxygen than an equivalent stand of trees? The more we grow the better we can breathe and with recorded growing rates of 47.6 inches in a 24 hour period it is a quick crop to turn around!

However utilisation of bamboo has not always been sustainable due to exploitation which is why The World Bamboo Organization aims to bring the potential of bamboo to an elevated exposure and ensure sustainable utilisation. We must always fact find to protect natural resources and our beautiful environment.

Unsurprisingly the team at Beyond Bamboo love all things bamboo because we are all about going beyond sustainable and ensuring that all of the products we feature on our marketplace are ethically sourced.

For instance if you are looking for sustainable bamboo baby products you will love the range from Tiny Chipmunk with gorgeous swaddle blankets, towels and feeding sets.

Being more sustainable doesn’t mean compromise either, bamboo fabric feels luxurious and it’s super soft!

So what else can we do with bamboo? It would actually be easier to list the things that we can’t do with it! Bamboo is such a diverse plant it can be eaten and used as a viable wood replacement (harvested in just 3-5 years compared to 10-20 for most softwoods) and it’s a great soil conservation tool too. It greatly reduces erosion which reduces rain run-off making it extremely earth friendly.

It can also make a wonderful alternative to plastic, metal and other materials too. Just look at the range of sunglasses by Wear Panda UK for confirmation of how incredibly diverse this plant can be!
