We may be in the midst of a global pandemic, but the world doesn’t have to be a scary place! We can all take a step away from fear and take action to change our world. It’s time for us to all take personal responsibility for the way we live our lives and the impact that we have as consumers. In the words of Anne-Marie Bonnea ‘We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly’. This means all of us taking stock and looking at our individual impact on a day to day basis. Most of us will be ‘trying to do our bit’ but often falling short of our goals by forgetting to take our reusable bottles out with us or feeling peckish and buying ‘convenience food’ on the run with lots of excess packaging. With COVID-19 sweeping the globe we are seeing an enormous impact with disposable PPE littering our streets, rivers and seas, which all seems so unnecessary with so many re-usable alternatives available now. So how do we get closer to a beyond sustainable lifestyle? The key is in the planning! Remember your re-usable bags when you go shopping, including the veg bags. Check your bag before you leave the house for your bottle and to make sure you have a clean re-usable mask with you and any snacks that can be eaten on the run. And of course, always choose ethical products that won’t harm the Earth!
