Spring has sprung and Easter is just around the corner! Just a few weeks after the children get back to school after a long drawn out winter of lockdown and here we are already – Easter holidays! The children (and of course the big kids) in your house most probably love this time of year for all the yummy food and chocolate treats. We have compiled a short list of simple tips to get you thinking about how to celebrate in a more sustainable and eco-friendly way this year:

  • Instead of purchasing new decorations or Easter baskets for that all important egg hunt, think about what you can re-use from last year, or maybe you have some craft bits or card lying around which can be used to create decorations?
  • Avoid plastic! Plastic eggs really should be avoided – we all know the damaging effect of single use plastics for our environment – especially as they find their way into oceans – so can you make eggs out of biodegradable materials instead?
  • Choose wisely when selecting chocolate treats – go for Fair Trade and Ethical brands whenever you can!! You may have to pay a bit more, but you are supporting people and planet when you do choose consciously.
  • Support local and purchase your Easter food from your local markets.
  • Go Organic. Organic farming methods are proven to have a much more positive affect on the environment than traditional methods.
  • Remember your Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!
  • Avoid sparkly, glitter filled cards which cannot be recycled.
  • Finally, think before you buy – is this purchase absolutely necessary? Spending time with your loved ones is what this time of year is all about.

We wish you all a Happy Holiday!
